Welancora Gallery and NU Hotel Brooklyn are pleased to present The Root of the Matter, botanical inspired works by Robin Roi. This exhibition is in support of our partnership with the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and a continuation of our engagement with the larger Brooklyn Community. The work in this exhibition is inspired by Roi’s interest in pattern and repetition, from the natural and synthetic worlds. Pattern is an element that she uses more as a tool or a support beam holding up the narratives in her mixed media works on paper.
Roi’s practice straddles the fine and decorative arts. With a career spanning over four decades, she received ample opportunities to immerse herself in both worlds by working, at The Drawing Center; The American Crafts Museum; The Heller Galley; and, exhibiting her “Pattern Paintings” with Barbara Gladstone Gallery in New York and Bruno Bischofberger in Switzerland. Additionally, for 30 years, Robin served as the Director of Decorative Painting at Evergreene Architectural Arts.
Robin received a BFA in printmaking at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a MFA in painting at Claremont Graduate University in California. Roi currently lives and works in New York.
