Sottocasa is one of the best pizza restaurants in Downtown Brooklyn, a borough famous world-over for its pies. The charming subterranean space oozes family appeal with red brick walls, small tables, and an outdoor greenhouse space with shades hanging overhead in the summer. Brick oven pizza, crispy dough and fine ingredients keep everything on the menu here outstanding.
Sottocasa Pizzeria is located on Atlantic Avenue, literally around the corner from the Nu Hotel. If you’re freezing in the middle of winter, or exhausted after a long day exploring the city, this is as easy and high quality an option as they come.
What to Try
Begin your meal at Sottocasa Pizzeria with one of the many authentic antipasti dishes. We are fans of the barbabietole, which is a simple mixture of roasted beets, apple, and whipped goat cheese with e.v.o.o. dressing. For something a bit more traditional, try the rughetta with arugula, cherry tomatoes, artichokes, shaved parmigiano and lemon.
Moving to the main course, pizza is obviously the way to go. The pies at Sottocasa Pizzeria range from simple to complex. On the lighter side of things, the margherita—tomatoes, mozzarella and basil—and burrata with cherry tomatoes and sea salt are your best bet. Moving to the more hearty options, the boscaiola is the way to go with mozzarella, hot Italian sausage, gorgonzola, mushrooms and basil.
In addition to the many pies and salads offered at Sottocasa Pizzeria, it’s also an excellent destination for wine with an extensive collection of blends from around the world.
