A Perfect Day of Food in Brooklyn

New York City is one of the food and restaurant capitals of the world, and Brooklyn has contributed to that fact more and more as time has gone on. Guests of NU Hotel with great adventurous palates tend to come here excited to explore the local menus and dining rooms. With so many fantastic options within walking distance of our hotel, we decided to lay out a number of options for an ideal day of eating in Brooklyn.

Bar Tabac

Bar Tabac is a popular French bistro in Cobble Hill that has an intimate atmosphere sometimes complemented by live music. The brunch menu here is one of the best in the area with a number of highlights. The Bar Tabac Bloody Mary is on point, and you can also get mimosas, bellinis, and more. For apps, the baked Burgundy snails are a must. You can also get a brunch prix-fixe with Mediterranean baked eggs, avocado toast, and more.

Shelsky’s of Brooklyn 

Shelsky’s is a favorite food spot of many local Brooklyn residents and it’s one of the area’s most acclaimed Jewish delis. Come here for affordable, classic NYC-style egg-and-cheese sandwiches on rolls, as well as bagel sandwiches stuffed with lox, pickled herring, and more. The lunch options also impress with standouts like a Maine-style lobster roll, and a classic hot corned beef sandwich with mustard on rye.

Lemongrass Brooklyn

Lemongrass’s Thai menu is one of the area’s best and it features a number of fantastic lunch specials. Monday through Friday from noon to 3 pm, you can save on their famous chili basil shrimp and squid dish, as well as other recommended favorites like the crispy tilapia in chili sauce and fresh green chili shrimp. There are also specials for curries, noodle dishes like pad Thai, and more.

Mile End Delicatessen

To explore more of Brooklyn’s famous deli scene, this is another lunch option that focuses on a Montreal-inspired approach to sandwiches. The dense sandwich menu features a number of favorites including a classic corned beef reuben with Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Russian dressing on pumpernickel. The Bubbie’s Brisket is also fantastic with braised meat, BBQ sauce, and pickled veggies.

Sottocasa 

If you’re wondering how we’ve made it so late in the day without pizza, it’s because waiting for Sottocasa to open at 5 pm is worth it. Featuring some of the most famous pies in Brooklyn, they offer a number of must-try food including a classic marinara pie, a diavola pie with hot soppressata, and the popular 4 Stagioni — sauce, mozzarella, Italian ham, olives, mushrooms, artichokes, and basil.

French Louie 

For a dinner option on the fancier side, try this intimate and stylish bistro that’s been a hit for years. French Louie has an excellent wine selection and cocktail list. And its dinner options include classics like steak tartare, and daring delights like a chilled tomato soup, spicy pickled okra, and a swordfish grenobloise.
