A little bit better than any Food or Film Festival— Food Film Fest
One of New York City’s most unique and grandly curated annual events is coming up. Food Film Fest began in Brooklyn in 2007 as the brainchild of Travel Channel personality and documentary filmmaker, George Motz. The festival showcases a variety of films in all the classic categories— feature, short films, documentaries, etc. Films screened at the festival feature some kind of food and world renowned chefs serve correspondingly themed dishes to the viewers.
The example of this experience provided on the Food Film website recalls director Ron Mann’s screening of his film, Know Your Mushrooms. Following the screening, Iron Chef personality Brad Farmerie put out an extensive mushroom-themed tasting menu. With films and foods from all sorts of minds and chefs from around the world, one can only imagine the possibilities. For those whose curiosities extend beyond that imagination, however, there is a list of the scheduled events up on the Food Film site.
One of the first events at this year’s festival is called Cocina Peruana. Taking place on October 29 at AMC theatres on Third Avenue. This gathering will feature the New York City premiere of the film Finding Gaston. The picture follows the story of Peruvian chef, Gaston Acurio by delving into his craft and philosophies. Attendees will have the pleasure of screening this acclaimed documentary while trying some delicious Peruvian cuisine. Featuring one of the most acclaimed and truly impressive culinary nations in the world, this is definitely a great place to start. Other event themes include: Sriracha, seafood, food porn, craft beer and more.
Anybody who has an opportunity to get to one of these events absolutely should. Food and film are two of the most respected, talked about and ahead of the curb art forms in New York City and this festival capitalizes on that, making it the only event of its kind. This sweet festival founded in Brooklyn will be in New York City from October 29-November 2nd.
