Every January, the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) pays tribute to Martin Luther King Jr., hosting cultural figures from around the world alongside members of the Brooklyn community during its annual celebration of the life and accomplishments of Dr. King.

The look back at the civil rights luminary takes place on his birthday — January 19 — and serves as the largest public celebration of MLK Jr. in New York City. BAM has held yearly Martin Luther King Jr. events for the past 25 years. This year’s event will be presented in league with Medgar Evers College and Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams.

The event takes place at the BAM Howard Gilman Opera House and features musical performances, art exhibitions, and more. Past guests and performers include Angela Davis, a tribute to Curtis Mayfield and Blitz the Ambassador.
