One of the many international restaurants in Downtown Brooklyn, Dosa Royale serves dosas, a South Indian specialty. The dosa is a long, thin wrap filled with potato masalas, paneers and vegetables. This favorite local restaurant has outpostings in the Brooklyn Flea and Smorgasburg markets, as well as a brick and mortar shop with marble tables, outdoor seating and a knowledgeable staff.


Dosa Royale is located on Court Street on the border between Cobble Hill and Carroll Gardens. Just a half-mile from Nu Hotel, guests can travel here for dinner by taking a ten-minute walk or fifteen-minute subway ride. On the way, you can catch a flick at Cobble Hill Cinemas, and after the meal you can grab a cocktail at acclaimed bars like Bar Great Harry and Black Mountain Wine House, both around the corner.

What to Try

There are plenty of ways to begin your meal at Dosa Royale, but the most popular is with either a samosa or the daily rasam, a spicy tomato soup with different ingredients daily. Samosa fans: go for the curried potato and green pea. It has just the right amount of kick.

Moving to the main course, stick with the restaurant’s namesake and order a dosa. The classic masala option comes filled with just curried potato (there’s also a sweet potato option) while the spinach and paneer offers a little more variety, and the rava masala has all the fixings with curried potato, red onion, curry leaves, roasted cumin and fresh coriander.
