Gone are the days when you had to settle for a soda and cookie dough bites at the movies. Nitehawk Cinema, self dubbed as New York City’s original cinema eatery, shows cutting edge films while serving artisanal food and craft cocktails. Located in Brooklyn’s uber popular neighborhood of Williamsburg, the theater has become a staple of Brooklyn culture since its opening in 2011.

Nitehawk Cinema’s films target cinephiles who are looking for quality and ingenuity over the mass-appeal of blockbusters—contemporary Oscar hopefuls and arthouse classics are the norm. Films appear in one of three screening rooms: the main 92-seat auditorium, a middle hall with 60 seats, and an intimate theater with just 28 seats.

Drinks and food specials are themed to the films currently screening (with clever titles to boot), but the main menu stays the same year-round. We love the Catcher in the Rye cocktail with— SNAP Ginger liqueur, Old Overholt Rye, and housemade mint lemonade. Small plates like charcuterie and flatbreads along with entrees ranging Brooklyn-made weisswurst and fish tacos make the Nitehawk Cinema one of Brooklyn’s culinary scene’s best kept secrets.

An undeniably different night on the town, this is a must-stop for any first time visitors of the borough. For more information, showtimes, and menus, checkout the Nitehawk Cinema website here.
