In Brooklyn, we’ve known for years that the restaurants here were just as good as the more famous spots in Manhattan. And now, the rest of the city has taken notice. Big name chefs, New York Times reviews, and Michelin stars are now commonplace onno our side of the East River. Here are the best restaurants in Brooklyn, where the dining scene is buzzing.

Sans

In the beautiful nearby neighborhood of Carroll Gardens, Sans is one of the best new restaurants in New York City, and it’s vegan. Eleven Madison Park restaurateur Champ Jones opened the intimate restaurant—there’s only space for 30 diners—spot in September 2018. Delicious terrines, a raved-about lasagna, and all-around delicate cuisine are on the menu.

Sans. 329 Smith St.

Sofreh

Another just-opened gem, Sofreh brings delectable Persian cuisine to Prospect Heights. Some of the more popular things to eat here include signature yogurt dips, coming with accompanying ingredients like roasted beets and housemade bread. The braised lamb shank is another must-try.

Gladys Jerk Center and Rum Bar

Gladys Jerk Center is a super popular Caribbean spot on hip Franklin Avenue in Crown Heights. A large dining room is complemented by a flavorful menu with highlights like curry goat, jerk chicken and pork, as well as a hearty oxtail stew.

Saint Julivert Fisherie

Seafood is the main focus here at Saint Julivert Fisherie, and the kitchen prepares it mainly with a Spanish influence and many other traditions and countries getting some flavors in. Come here to share tapas-sized cold dishes like fluke ceviche, and choose from a number of unique hot dishes like the sea urchin with sweet corn.

Misi

The brainchild of Chef Missy Robbins, Misi is a pasta-centric Italian restaurant on Brooklyn’s Kent Avenue. The simple, high-quality menu consists of ten pasta dishes made in an in-house, glass-walled pasta room. Be sure to book before you come to New York, as reservations can fill up as far as a month in advance.
