Populated by tough, hardworking individuals who endure brutal winters and a high cost of living, Brooklyn is a wonder to behold in the summer. It’s the season residents wait for all year long. Smiles abound, and all people want to seem to do with their free time is have fun. At Celebrate Brooklyn!, fun is guaranteed for almost all who attend. Here’s why.
Celebrate Brooklyn! Venue
The music that fills the air, performed by talented musicians representing a range of regions and musical genres, makes Celebrate Brooklyn! great. The Prospect Park Bandshell, a beautiful open-air venue with music-to-your-ears acoustics, makes it even more special. The listening experience music lovers have is rivalled by only a handful of other outdoor venues in the city, but bands also love playing here. Last year, Damien Rice, Interpol, Modest Mouse, Edward Sharpe, and Willie Nelson all took to the Bandshell stage.
Opening Night 2016
The Celebrate Brooklyn! 2016 summer concert series kicks off on June 8th with a performance by Brooklyn funk-soul band Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings. Like all of the non-benefit shows of the 2016 season, the opening concert event is free to attend. However, a $3 donation is suggested.
Celebrate Brooklyn! has an exciting lineup sketched out for the 2016 season, which is expected to be released in its entirety on May 10th. In addition to local artists like Sharon Jones, international sensations Tame Impala, Ray LaMontagne, Beirut, and The Lumineers are scheduled to take to the stage for special benefit events. The benefit shows help fund the maintenance of Prospect Park and its cultural celebrations.
If you’ll be in Brooklyn between June 10 and the end of August, make sure Celebrate Brooklyn! is on your radar. You may discover a budding artist you really like, or have the opportunity to see one of your favorite bands. With Prospect Park as the backdrop, you can’t go wrong. Pack a picnic, and prepare for a live music experience you won’t forget. The Prospect Park Bandshell, home to each and every Celebrate Brooklyn! Concert, is just 15 minutes from NU Hotel Brooklyn by cab or the “F” train.
