Many of Brooklyn’s finest attractions surround cuisine and shopping. Throughout the borough, progressive chefs are serving up internationally inspired cuisine while young fashion designers are rejecting cookie-cutter standards to dress Brooklyn’s hipster-cum-professional crowd. It’s impossible to visit each and every spot, but Brooklyn’s outdoor markets help you take a stab at see a wide range of shops and food purveyors in one go. Here are our top picks of where to go this summer:

Bushwick Flea

A DIY vibe resonates in this up-and-coming neighborhood’s flea market.  Browse the clothing racks lined with retro styles dating back to the 1960s and listen to independent musicians strum acoustic guitars in between the vendors selling jewelry, handmade rocking chairs, and more. This year, artists Yuki Abe and Danelobk have been working on a massive mural covering up an old brick wall.

Brooklyn Flea

Brooklyn Flea has fast become one of the most well known pop ups in the city, with outposts in Williamsburg and Fort Greene. Like at all flea markets, you can find a wide variety of thrifty, vintage goods in both locations, but it’s the standout vendors that set the Brooklyn Flea apart. Local favorites include secondhand shop Dan’s Parents House and furniture maker Recycled Brooklyn, which transforms street finds into high-quality pieces. The knockout food comes from Smorgasburg, a market of its own featuring some of New York’s top restaurants like Mighty Quinn’s BBQ, Red Hook Lobster Pound, and current craze Ramen Burger.
