Brooklyn Pizza

Brooklyn’s Nu Hotel concierge and front desk staff can quickly recommend the borough’s most happening events, and delicious haunts. To kickstart our Nu Recommends blog series, we chatted with local Tori Greenway, a guest service agent and concierge. Follow Greenway’s global palate for everything from casual French fare to spicy Korean squid, all a stone’s throw from this boutique Brooklyn hotel.

Bar Tabac

Greenway’s first restaurant pick is Bar Tabac, a stalwart favorite for Nu Hotel guests and staff alike. Located just down the road on bustling, store-lined Smith Street, this delightful French bistro combines a quaint space with classic cuisine and a covetable strip of outdoor seats during summer months. With live music several nights of the week, this little bistro does just about all they can to keep patrons happy. Their onion soup gratinee, seafood risotto, and Parisian petit dejeuner are just a few reasons why Greenway enthused, “It’s my absolute favorite…”

Ssäm Korean Restaurant

“When I’m in an adventurous mood,” Greenway explained. “I love Ssäm Korean Restaurant. Nothing beats their hot stone Bibimbap.” Try Greenway’s favorite dish: white rice with mixed vegetables and an egg sauteed in a steaming stone bowl. Neighborhood residents’ love of Ssäm Korean prove this claim holds water. Ssäm Korean Restaurant showcases traditional Asian dishes that are otherwise unrepresented in Downtown Brooklyn. Other favorites include the spicy squid lunch box and udon stir fry noodles.

Pane e Vino

Continuing to trace the culinary axis criss-crossing Brooklyn, Greenway’s final recommendation is another Smith Street favorite. “My go-to classic Italian restaurant is Pane e Vino, which has a large menu with all the wonderful Italian dishes that send you to your comfort zone.” Greenway explains, “They have a nice little patio to eat outdoors when the weather is nice, and the ambiance is fantastic.” Follow Greenway’s example and order housemade pasta (fettucini; black linguine) on Pane E Vino’s romantic, covered patio.
