Brooklyn brownstones decorated in Christmas lights and garland

New York City is among the most fantastic destinations for the holiday season in the world, and Brooklyn adds its own brand of flavor and charm. Come stay with Nu Hotel this December, and take some time to explore the borough for great holiday shopping experiences, unforgettable festive productions, interactive events, and some illuminating traditions.

Here are some of our favorite examples of how the borough of Brooklyn celebrates the holidays.

Brooklyn Holiday Bazaar

First Three Sundays of December

Take some time during your upcoming visit to shop, eat, and drink with some of the best tastemakers in Brooklyn. This holiday bazaar will provide guests opportunities to tap into local culture, and find beautiful, unique gifts on each of the first three Sundays of December.

Handmade works of art, packaged foods and wines, and stellar clothes will be among the inventory. Some vendors that we’re particularly excited to point shoppers in the direction of include: Adelante Shoe Company, Anu Essentials, Green Elephant Brooklyn, and Kate Koel Jewelry.

The Brooklyn Nutcracker

December 14th

You can find a moving production of “The Nutcracker” in any American city during the holiday season. The Brooklyn Nutcracker, however, is a re-imagining of the classic show, infusing some of the borough’s most homegrown, and favorite art forms. The show blends the ballet’s classical music numbers with hip-hop, and an endless variety of worldly dance genres.

The show will come from the Brooklyn Ballet, which is a famous company revered for its innovation in mixing dance styles, and implementing innovative technology into shows. There’s only one showing of “The Brooklyn Nutcracker” on the books, so be sure to grab a ticket for this magnificent experience soon.

Hot For The Holidays 2019

December 18th

It wouldn’t be a proper Brooklyn holiday season if there wasn’t some top-notch music thrown into the mix. Hot For The Holidays is an ensemble concert featuring some of the biggest names in hip-hop taking place this December. Put on by the beloved local radio station Hot 97, the event will take place at Downtown Brooklyn’s premier performing arts venue—The Barclays Center.

Topping the list of event headliners is Khalid, who is an American singer-songwriter most famous for hit songs like “Lovely,” “Young, Dumb & Broke,” and “Eastside.” Other tastemakers on the lineup for Hot For The Holidays 2019 at Barclays Center include H.E.R., Wale, Queen Naija, Kiana Lede, Layton Greene, and The Bonfyre.

Hanukkah Lightings

It wouldn’t be a proper holiday season in Brooklyn if we didn’t have some vibrant Hanukkah celebrations on hand. A Very House of Yes Hanukkah will ring in the first night of the festival of lights with a candle-lighting ceremony, live musical performances, aerial spectacles, dancing, and a whole lot of latkes. This will be an exceptionally fun and joyous night for all of those who come out.

Brooklyn has a long and storied Jewish tradition, and all are welcome to celebrate the holiday with us this December. In addition to the House of Yes festivities, Brooklyn’ Largest Menorah Lighting will take place once again this year at Grand Army Plaza.
