Nu Hotel is excited for our neighboring NBA franchise— the Brooklyn Nets— as they gear up for their another season in our favorite New York City borough. Entering their third season in the astounding Barclays Center, the Nets have a lot of changes to work with as they bid to return to the NBA playoffs. With last year’s success bringing them into the 2nd round of the postseason, cut off by a loss to the Miami Heat, the team hopes to build off those victories and achieve a longer run this time around.

Much of the difference between this year’s and last year’s Nets has been constructed by offseason changes and acquisitions. All-time great point guard and former Brooklyn coach, Jason Kidd will not be returning to the team. Kidd did lead the Nets to a winning season last year, however his command of the players and slow start left him with an air of inadequacy. The team has brought on Lionel Hollins to replace Kidd. Hollins has been coaching in the NBA on and off since the mid-eighties and was a successful professional point guard for ten years prior. With an old-school, conservative stance on defense and work ethic, Hollins is expected to have a positive influence on the team.

In addition to Hollins, the Nets have brought on some other exciting names. Jarret Jack and Markel Brown are amongst a list of potentially impactful off season acquisitions. Brooklyn also excitedly anticipates the return of star center Brook Lopez. The former Stanford forward had to leave the team early last season after fracturing his foot. His strong presence is expected to boost the team. The Nets will also benefit from the recently announced return of future hall of famer, Kevin Garnett. This will be Garnett’s 20th and likely last season in the league, but his influence will not be hindered as Hollins has already stated that The Big Ticket will be in the starting lineup.

Kevin Garnett came to Brooklyn with Paul Pierce from the Celtics in 2013. Pierce, who was an exciting influence on the club last season, will not be returning, but instead taking his talents to the Washington Wizards. Despite Pierce’s accolades, his departure will help the already forward-heavy Nets spread out their offense for a more dynamic and widespread attack.

With the return of stars Deron Williams and Joe Johnson, the team can stand on predefined talent and build up with all the newly acquired talent. Keeping all that in mind, the question comes to mind, what does Nu Hotel expect for the Brooklyn Nets 2014-15 season? A championship. But hey, we’re optimists and fans. With high hopes, our analysis does leave us confident that this year will be a successful, entertaining and exciting one for the NBA team that plays right down the street. Not to mention we are walking distance from Barclays so we always get caught up into the hype.
